Over 100 polling stations in Tharparkar exist in Waderas’ guesthouses

District General

Mithi, Sindh: The executive committee of Pakistan Peoples’ Party, Tharparkar, which met here with its president MNA Dr. Mahesh Malani in the chair, constituted committees at Taluka level to prepare the lists of bogus polling stations for challenging it at Election Commission.

The meeting was informed that at least 100 polling stations exist in very small remote villages that are inaccessible for the voters of big villages while others are established in the Autaqs (guesthouses) of Waderas, the landlords.

It was told that the polling stations in remote villages are 10 to 15 kilometres away from big villages where no voter had ever gone to cast his vote but hundred percent vote casting has been shown there during last five elections.

“The Arbabs (former Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim and his brothers) have been winning the seats in Tharparkar by rigging the polls this way,” the meeting alleged.

The PPP leaders told that Election Commission in a letter has directed concerned officials as per Supreme Court order to setup new polling station at any village where the number of voters is over 250 or they are located 25km away from polling station so that maximum people could avail right of vote. “There are hundreds of villages having over 500 voters but they have to travel 15km for casting vote,” they said.

The PPP leaders said the Assistant Election Commissioner of Tharparkar has neglected such official instructions. “MNA Mahesh Malani had met the official and asked for setting up more polling stations as directed by the court but he is not prepared to do so,” they told.
