OIC to coordinate positions with EU against attempts to alter Jerusalem status

Brussels A foreign ministerial delegation, representing the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), is paying a visit to the European Union to meet EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.

The visit is a move to develop relations with influential countries and international organizations to transmit the message of the extraordinary Islamic summit of Istanbul held on 13 December 2017, which dismissed the US administration's recognition of Jerusalem as the alleged capital of Israel and the relocation of its embassy to Jerusalem, and rejected all attempts to alter the legal and historical status of the occupied city of Jerusalem.

Leading the delegation, OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen said the diplomatic move aims to mobilize support further and strengthen international efforts for an internationally sponsored, multilateral political process with a fixed timeline to end the Israeli occupation, based on relevant UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative. Calling on UN states that have not already recognized the State of Palestine and the occupied Jerusalem as its capital to do so, Al-Othaimeen stressed the need to support Palestine in its efforts to accede to international organizations and agreements, while ensuring international protection to the Palestinian people.

For the record, the OIC Executive Committee has in its membership Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Gambia, Uzbekistan, CAte d'Ivoire, Bangladesh, along with the OIC secretary general.
