Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, majority (68%) support government’s action to block mobile phone service during Ashura.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Keeping in mind the security situation, mobile networks were blocked by the government during Muharram.
To what extent do you support the government’s decision to block mobile networks?” Responding to this, 33% strongly support government’s decision, 35% somewhat support it, 21% somewhat oppose it while 10% strongly oppose it. However 1% did not give a view.
The Poll’s findings are in line with other survey results compiled by Gilani Research Foundation, where Public Opinion has been generally supportive of current government’s decisions regarding Law and Order and Anti-Terrorism steps.
The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2632 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during December 03, 2012 – December 08, 2012. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
