Legal action being taken against profiteers involved in selling medicines at higher prices: Nadeem

Caretaker Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Dr Nadeem Jan says the government has recalled the entire batch of the drug, which reportedly led to the outbreak of conjunctivitis among people.

Talking to the media, along with Punjab Health Minister Jamal Nasir Malik, in Islamabad on Sunday, he said an investigation has been ordered into the matter, and findings of the probe will be shared with the people. He said legal action has been initiated in this regard.

Dr Nadeem Jan further said the best medical assistance will be provided to the affected people.

Meanwhile, caretaker Punjab Health Minister Dr Jamal Nasir has constituted a five-member committee to review the case of eye infection due to Avastin injection. Dr. Asad Aslam Khan of King Edward Medical University has been nominated as Convener of the committee.

Provincial Minister said that the warehouses of the Avastin injection have been sealed and drug inspectors across Punjab have been asked to stop the sale and purchase of this injection.

He said that all doctors and patients have been instructed not to use Avastin injection and medical stores, wholesalers and distributors have also been stopped from selling this injection.
