Karachi: The Karachi police have killing 108 dacoits in 1197 encounters during the period from January 01 to December 13, 2012. It also busted 915 gangs of dacoits, arrested 11074 criminals including 1813 absconders and 186 proclaimed offenders, and recovered 7115 weapons, 1472 mobile phones, 1355 motorcycles and other 505 vehicles during this period.
In a report on the performance of police of all the three zones, Special Investigation Unit, Anti Violent Crime Cell and Ant Car Lifting Cell submitted to Inspector General of Police, Sindh Fayyaz Ahmed Laghari, it was stated that in 192 police encounters that took place in South Zone, 19 dacoits were killed and 1612 criminals arrested including 299 absconders and 32 proclaimed offenders. The recoveries made from them include 20 SMGs, 21 rifles, 8 repeaters, 963 pistols/revolvers, 2 carbines, 5 mousers, 2 RPG, 149 hand grenades, 42 daggers, 263 mobile phones, 111 motorcycles, 12 other vehicles and cash.
In West Zone, 379 encounters and other actions took place during which 42 dacoits were killed and 3992 dacoits/criminals arrested including 635 absconders and 79 proclaimed offenders. The police recovered 23 SMG, 2 shot guns, 51 rifles, 33 repeaters, 2446 pistols/revolvers, 1 carbine, 22 mousers, 28 hand grenades, 61 mortars, 32 daggers, 537 mobile phones, 230 motorcycles, 65 other vehicles and cash.
In East Zone, 47 dacoits were killed, 4114 dacoits/criminals including 804 absconders and 52 proclaimed offenders were arrested in 522 encounters and other police actions recovering 42 SMG, 4 shot guns, 59 rifles, 64 repeaters, 2343 pistols/revolvers, 7 carbines, 6 mousers, 26 hand grenades, 124 daggers, 658 mobile phones, 265 motorcycles, 83 other vehicles and cash.
Report further stated that SIU arrested 1009 dacoits/criminals including 36 absconders and 13 proclaimed offenders in 94 encounters and other actions and recovered 18 SMG, 17 rifles, 30 repeaters, 340 pistols, 15 hand grenades, 14 mobile phones, 10 motorcycles and 6 other vehicles.
The AVCC arrested 58 dacoits/criminals including three absconders and recovered 26 pistols and 2 SMG while ACLC arrested 289 dacoits including 36 absconders and 10 proclaimed offenders during 7 encounters and other actions and recovered 6 rifles/repeaters, 72 pistols, 3 daggers, 739 motorcycles and 339 other vehicles.
