JI demands election monitoring cell at Karachi level

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti on Monday demanded of Caretaker Chief Minister Justice Retd Zahid Kurban Alvi to take notice of utilization of government resources in election campaign.

A seven-member delegation of JI called on Alvi at Chief Minister House here and demanded effective measures to ensure implementation of code of conduct pertaining to elections. JI leader asked the chief minister to deploy army personnel at every polling station in Karachi, as law and order situation of entire city is sensitive.

“Transparent elections will not be possible if the impediment is not removed before the general elections”, Mehanti said. He suggested Alvi to set up an election monitoring cell at Karachi level so that the political parties could register their complaints in case of any rigging.

Caretaker CM assured the JI delegation of setting up a monitoring cell during general elections. He said that the holding of transparent elections is a top priority of caretaker government and it would not leave any stone unturned in this regard.

A detailed discussion over the holding of general elections in the peaceful atmosphere was also held in the meeting.
