Karachi: Sindh Senior Minister for Education and Literacy Pir Mazharul Haq has said that lessons should be included in curriculum regarding awareness to use clean drinking water as access to clean drinking water is a basic human right.
This he said as chief guest in a seminar ‘Water as corporate social responsibilities’ organized by Human Rights Group of Pakistan at a local hotel.
He said that due to unsafe water there were many hazards to the health and this matter should be taken up seriously. The people in remote areas of the province were very happy because the government installed Reverse Osmosis plants to provide them clean drinking water.
Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government had allocated Rs8.5 billion in its annual budget 201213 for provision of clean drinking water in various parts of the province.
He added, ‘In the first phase, a total 225 water filtration plants are being established in 9 districts of province’.
Dr. Sher Ali Rizvi Chairman of Human Rights Group of Pakistan, Coordinator to Chief Minister Sindh on Human Rights Nadia Gabol also spoke.
Expert from Africa Ramzi Odabid stated that Africa was looking at Pakistan as a role model for water management.
The Government’s role was lauded by Mr. Sconke of UNOCHP for taking such solid initiatives.
