Islamabad: New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has appreciated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's efforts to broker peace between Iran and the United States and help resolve the conflict in the Middle East. He was addressing the Pakistani community in New Zealand on the occasion of Pakistan's Independence Day celebrations.
According to Radio Pakistan, the New Zealand Prime Minister highlighted the suffering caused by the Middle East conflict to people both locally and globally. He recalled a conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif three months ago, during which he expressed gratitude for Pakistan's initiatives in promoting peace in the region.
Discussing bilateral relations, Luxon noted the strong ties between New Zealand and Pakistan, rooted in their shared Commonwealth history and collaboration through international and regional forums such as the United Nations, World Trade Organization, and ASEAN Regional Forum.
The New Zealand Prime Minister also commended the Pakistani community in New Zealand for their significant contributions to the country's development across economic, social, and cultural spheres. He mentioned that the approximately 8,100 Pakistanis residing in New Zealand have positively impacted the nation through their dedication and accomplishments.
Luxon emphasized that New Zealand benefits greatly from the presence of the Pakistani community, whose immigrant stories serve as an inspiration. He encouraged the community members to take pride in their contributions to the country.
