85% of Pakistanis have never been to a library, POLL
Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 85% of Pakistanis have never been to a library.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Have you ever been to a library?” Responding to this, 85% said no and 15% said yes.
Those who said ‘yes’, were then asked “Why did you go to the library?” Responding to this, 40% said they went to study, 25% said they went for personal interest, 22% said they went to find information on something, 11% said they went to read the newspaper and 1% cited other reasons. However, 1% did not give a response.
The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2679 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during November 11, 2012 – November 17, 2012. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
