Pakistan and the United Nations on the basis of updated on-ground needs assessment of the floods situation in the country will jointly launch an up-scaled Flash Appeal in Geneva from Tuesday.

In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar said the revised 2022 Pakistan Floods Response Plan would be shared at the event.

He said the ministerial level participation from Pakistan will include Minister for Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman, will attend the event in person in Geneva, and Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar will also participate virtually from Islamabad.

He further said the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffithsand, Director General World Health Organization Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will represent the UN, along with Resident Coordinator in Pakistan Julien Harneis.

Foreign Office Spokesperson said the meeting will be attended by the UN Member States as well as various UN agencies and humanitarian organizations working in the area of disaster relief.

He said the Floods Response Plan has been prepared in close coordination between the Government of Pakistan and the United Nations, and focuses on providing necessary assistance to the vulnerable people affected by the unprecedented floods. It complements the Government’s overall response to the recent climate-induced floods in Pakistan.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has said audio leaks have exposed the true face of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has withdrawn the contempt of court case against PTI Chief Imran Khan.

A five-member larger bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah, announced the verdict in Islamabad on Monday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has thanked China for its generous assistance to support the flood affected people of Pakistan.

In a tweet on Sunday, he said our Chinese friends are continuing to help the flood victims in Pakistan. He said the total volume of aid has increased from 400 million to 644 million Chinese Yuan.

The Prime Minister said we are deeply obliged to Chinese Government, the Communist Party of China, Red Cross Society of China, sister provinces and the People’s Liberation Army for the assistance.
