New York (IINA) United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the UN Security Council on Wednesday separately offered their condolences to the Iranian government and families of the people killed in the attacks in Tehran.

In a statement this morning, his spokesperson said that the secretary general strongly condemned the terrorist attacks.

At least 50 people were killed or injured on Wednesday in the attacks on the mausoleum of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the Parliament building.

The UN chief called for those responsible for this unjustifiable violence to be brought to justice.

All countries must work together in fighting terrorism while upholding the universal rights and values that bind the global community, the spokesperson said.

In a separate statement, the Security Council, which called the attacks barbaric and cowardly, stressed the need to take measures to prevent and suppress the financing of terrorism, terrorist organizations and individual terrorists.
