Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have extended their greetings to the entire nation on the occasion of Independence Day. In their separate messages, they called upon all Pakistanis to contribute to the country's progress in whatever field they serve.
According to Radio Pakistan, President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message, emphasized that the 14th of August is a reminder of the sacrifices that led to the creation of Pakistan. He paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the leaders, and workers of the Pakistan Movement, and all those who sacrificed their homes, security, and livelihoods for a homeland. The President highlighted that independence is not just a historic achievement but also a responsibility for each generation to uphold. He reflected on the past year's events, particularly Marka-e-Haq, which underscored the strength and resolve of the Pakistani nation in maintaining sovereignty and protecting national interests.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, acknowledged the country's journey towards national development and prosperity, despite facing challenges. He noted the government's success over the past two and a half years in achieving economic stability, with a notable increase of 11.3 billion US dollars in remittances from overseas Pakistanis, showcasing their confidence in governmental policies. The Prime Minister lauded Pakistan's armed forces for their unwavering resolve and courage, especially during Marka-e-Haq, under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He stated that Pakistan takes immense pride in its armed forces and their role in defending the nation.
Shehbaz Sharif further emphasized Pakistan's role in the international community as a strong and dignified nation advocating for peace. He highlighted the country's contribution to regional stability and the significance of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, exemplifying Pakistan's strategic strength. The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan's unwavering support for the Palestinian people and the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination, stressing the need for a diplomatic resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in alignment with United Nations resolutions.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also addressed the nation, affirming Pakistan's commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people's struggle for self-determination in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions. He reiterated Pakistan's stance for peace, dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect among nations. Emphasizing the Makkah Accord with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, Dar highlighted the shared resolve to enhance strategic cooperation and address regional and international peace and security challenges.
