Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the use of modern technology to digitally monitor the fuel supply chain. He was chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad today to review reforms and institutional capacity building of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). He directed the development of a system to strictly monitor fuel transportation, using the Federal Board of Revenue's modern tracking system as a model.
According to Radio Pakistan, to enhance OGRA's efficiency, the Prime Minister directed the restructuring of the authority and the recruitment of reputable private-sector experts through a transparent, merit-based process. He affirmed that the government will provide all kinds of professional expertise for reforms and restructuring of the OGRA. The Prime Minister stated that public funds will be protected and no exploitation or system interference will be allowed.
He also directed that necessary measures be taken to establish formal communication between all regulatory bodies and their respective ministries. Shehbaz Sharif urged the acceleration of oil refinery upgrades under the approved policy. The Prime Minister also directed the strict implementation of the government's reform agenda across all institutions without exception.
During the meeting, it was informed that OGRA has made significant progress in monitoring the oil supply chain from port to petrol pump through a digital system. The meeting was briefed that key digital initiatives, including a National Monitoring Dashboard, Tanker Track and Trace system, Depot-Tank Telemetry systems, the Rahguzar mobile app, and a Central Monitoring Cell, are already active to effectively monitor petroleum stocks, movement, and sales.
It was further informed that a data-driven campaign in July 2026 identified multiple instances of hoarding and unnecessary supply disruptions, leading to show-cause notices and legal actions. Appreciating OGRA's reform programme, the Prime Minister directed that the modern digital system should be fully operationalized as soon as possible to ensure complete transparency, effective monitoring, and the elimination of hoarding and illegal profiteering in the oil and gas sector.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that ensuring an uninterrupted supply of fuel to the public and fair prices is the top priority of the government, and for this purpose, no negligence or corruption will be tolerated.
