Islamabad:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed Pakistan's commitment to its partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), emphasizing the importance of creating employment opportunities for skilled labor and youth.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting with ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo and his delegation in Islamabad. He highlighted the robust cooperation between Pakistan and the ILO and called for enhanced facilitation by the organization in international certification and professional training for Pakistan's skilled labor.
The Prime Minister noted the government's initiatives aimed at the welfare, protection, and professional advancement of the national labor force, aligning with international agreements. He also discussed efforts to boost industrial growth and productivity through the reinvigoration of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), suggesting that increased collaboration with the ILO could further support SMEDA's objectives.
Director-General Houngbo expressed gratitude for the meeting and conveyed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Pakistan to enhance the protection and progression of its labor force. He commended the cooperation between the ILO and Pakistan's Federal Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, and reaffirmed the ILO's commitment to working with the government, employers, and workers in Pakistan for the labor force's cohesive progress and industrial development.
