Pakistan Seeks Stronger Ties With Google For Safe Digital Environment

Islamabad: Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, has announced Pakistan's intent to enhance its cooperation with Google to create a safer and more peaceful digital environment. This announcement came during a meeting with a high-level delegation from Google, led by Senior Director David Wheeler, in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting focused on digital security, the effective use of social media to combat terrorism, and the necessity of timely monitoring online content. The discussions emphasized mutual cooperation between Pakistan and Google in addressing these challenges. Talal Chaudhry highlighted that Pakistan's unique geographical and socio-political conditions necessitate special attention from digital platforms. He pointed out that terrorist groups exploit social media to incite fear and promote terrorism, making proactive social media monitoring crucial under Pakistan's specific circumstances.

Senior Director of Google, David Wheeler, assured the continuous cooperation of Google with the Pakistani government to ensure a secure digital space. The meeting was also attended by Google Pakistan representative Dr. Kyle Gardner. Other notable attendees included members of the Social Media Protection and Regulation Authority, M. Saad Ali and Salman Zafar, Director General of the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency Khurram Ali, and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Malik Sanaullah.
