Jakarta:United Nations Pakistan has urged for a more empowered General Assembly and the effective implementation of United Nations resolutions.
According to Radio Pakistan, First Secretary Ansar Shah highlighted at the UN General Assembly plenary meeting the unique role of the Assembly as the only UN body with universal membership, emphasizing the principles of sovereign equality and inclusivity.
Pakistan proposed creating a dedicated mechanism to monitor the implementation of General Assembly resolutions, which would be supported by regular and detailed reports from the Secretariat.
Additionally, Ansar Shah called for a more robust and transparent relationship between the General Assembly and the Security Council, suggesting more frequent and substantive reports from the Council to the Assembly.
Pakistan also reaffirmed the importance of transparency, inclusivity, gender parity, and equitable regional representation in selecting the Secretary-General and other executive heads, expressing hope for a swift conclusion to the selection process to ensure a smooth transition.
