Islamabad: A special flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad today to mark Independence Day. Chairman Senate Yousuf Raza Gillani served as the chief guest, paying tribute to the leaders who participated in the Pakistan Movement. He laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha for the departed souls who contributed to the creation of Pakistan.
According to Radio Pakistan, flag-hoisting ceremonies were also organized at the General Headquarters and all Armed Forces headquarters. The national flags were hoisted, and the national anthem was played in honor of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the defense, security, and sovereignty of Pakistan. A similar ceremony took place at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, where Chief Justice Yahya Afridi hoisted the flag.
In Islamabad, a flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Federal Constitutional Court. Chief Justice Justice Amin-ud-Din emphasized the importance of educating younger generations about the sacrifices made for the country's creation. At the Islamabad High Court, Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar led the ceremony attended by senior judges and bar association members.
In Lahore, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan hoisted the national flag at Governor House. Representatives from the U.S., Chinese, and Iranian consulates participated and joined in cutting an Independence Day cake. In Karachi, the Change of Guards ceremony at Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's mausoleum was led by Rear Admiral Muhammad Umair, with Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah offering Fateha.
Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi hosted a flag-hoisting ceremony at Governor House, Peshawar, attended by the Iranian Consul General. Kundi praised the efforts of security forces and later cut a cake to celebrate Independence Day. In Quetta, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti addressed a ceremony at the Provincial Assembly, emphasizing efforts to integrate Baloch youth into the national mainstream.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, Chief Minister Amjad Hussain led a ceremony at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, where special prayers were offered for peace and prosperity. Rawalpindi Women University celebrated with a flag-hoisting ceremony led by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Tayyaba Zarif, who also launched a tree plantation drive and unveiled the university's new song, performed by students.
