Islamabad: First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari has expressed full support for the establishment of Sindh's first public-sector Comprehensive Stroke Centre at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) to strengthen specialized stroke care.
According to Radio Pakistan, the First Lady attended a briefing in Karachi on the vision and implementation roadmap for the proposed facility. The briefing was conducted by Professor of Neurology at the University of Toledo, Dr. Syed Fazal Zaidi, and Chairman of the Patient Aid Foundation, Mushtaq Chapra.
During the session, it was highlighted that Sindh records an estimated 500 stroke cases every day, with around 50 severe cases requiring specialized care. The proposed center will be developed under the Pakistan Stroke Initiative in collaboration with the Patient Aid Foundation, JPMC, and the Government of Sindh.
The center aims to provide advanced stroke treatment, specialist training, and research, serving as the hub of a province-wide tele-stroke network. The First Lady appreciated the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, emphasizing that strengthening specialized stroke services would help reduce preventable deaths, lifelong disabilities, and improve patient outcomes.
