Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced that every possible effort will be made to retrieve the body of climber Dr. Asma, who tragically died on Spantik Mountain in the Karakoram Range.
According to Radio Pakistan, the minister shared on X that High Altitude Porters were expected to reach Camp-3 to retrieve Dr. Asma's body and bring it down to base camp by the following day. However, the rescue team, which had nearly reached Camp-3, was forced to turn back to Camp-2 due to severe weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and strong winds.
The minister stated that a helicopter has been authorized for the mission, and coordination has been established between the Gilgit-Baltistan Government and Force Command Northern Areas to ensure the success of the operation. Alternate arrangements have also been put in place to facilitate the retrieval process.
Attaullah Tarar emphasized that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is being kept informed about the ongoing situation, indicating the government's commitment to the retrieval effort.
