New York:Pakistan has highlighted the importance of enhanced political coordination between the United Nations and the African Union, stressing that African ownership must be at the forefront of international efforts to tackle the continent's peace and security challenges.
According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Usman Jadoon, made these observations during a Security Council briefing on UN cooperation with regional and subregional organizations, focusing specifically on the African Union.
Jadoon noted that while the UN-AU partnership has established a strong institutional foundation, it now needs to achieve greater political coherence and deliver tangible results on the ground.
He further emphasized that the partnership should encompass the entire peace continuum, including prevention, mediation, peace operations, peacebuilding, and counter-terrorism.
