Islamabad: The National Steering Committee on Fuel Subsidy has approved the redemption of fuel tokens through SMS for stations located in areas without internet connectivity. The approval was granted at a meeting of the Committee to review the implementation of the Prime Minister's Special Relief Scheme, with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar in the chair.
According to Radio Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the provinces are required to furnish lists of stations without internet connectivity to ensure they are incorporated into the scheme promptly. The Committee was informed that the overwhelming majority of fuel stations across the country are now operational on the system, with citizens actively redeeming fuel tokens. Registration for the scheme is ongoing nationwide through SMS on 9771.
The State Bank of Pakistan reported to the Committee that all payment claims received over the past three days have been settled in full, with daily claims processed on the same day. Ishaq Dar emphasized the importance of integrating every operational fuel station into the system while identifying and excluding stations that are permanently closed or exclusively dealing in diesel, to ensure the scheme's coverage accurately reflects the situation on the ground.
Ishaq Dar expressed appreciation for the provincial administrations and acknowledged the cooperation extended by the State Bank of Pakistan, underscoring the necessity for the relief to consistently reach the intended beneficiaries without any obstacles.
