Islamabad: Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has asserted that terrorism is the central issue plaguing Afghanistan. Speaking at the UN Security Council session on Afghanistan, Ahmad underscored the connection between the Taliban and various terrorist groups, emphasizing the significant impact on regional stability.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ahmad pointed out that over the past three years, more than 4,700 innocent Pakistanis have fallen victim to terrorism originating from Afghanistan. He conveyed Pakistan's firm stance against the persistent threat, stressing that the nation cannot remain passive in the face of such aggression.
The Ambassador affirmed Pakistan's right to self-defense, stating that appropriate measures would be taken in accordance with international law to protect its citizens and national security. Ahmad declared Pakistan's commitment to defending itself against any entity that poses a threat to its people and sovereignty.
