Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan's support for Syria's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He made these remarks during a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Syrian Arab Republic, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, who visited Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister welcomed Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani and his delegation, conveying his best wishes for President Ahmed al-Sharaa. He recalled his recent interactions with the Syrian President and reiterated Pakistan's firm support for Syria's position on the Golan Heights.
Emphasizing the historic ties between the two nations, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to enhance cooperation in sectors such as politics, defense, trade, investment, education, and human resource development. He proposed the resumption of direct flights, which would facilitate people-to-people exchanges and aid pilgrims traveling from Pakistan to Syria for religious visits.
The Prime Minister extended an invitation to President Ahmed al-Sharaa for an official visit to Pakistan at a mutually convenient date. The Syrian Foreign Minister conveyed President al-Sharaa's greetings and briefed the Prime Minister on Syria's political transition and reconstruction efforts. He expressed gratitude for Pakistan's consistent support and highlighted Syria's interest in revitalizing bilateral engagement through early institutional mechanisms.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch.
