Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has emphasized Pakistan's commitment to enhancing its bilateral relations with Portugal, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, agriculture, IT, education, culture, and the blue economy. This statement was made during a meeting with Paulo Miguel Guedes Dominguez, the Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, who visited him in Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, the discussions between Gilani and Ambassador Dominguez revolved around bilateral relations, trade and investment, parliamentary cooperation, and enhancing people-to-people contacts. Gilani reiterated the significance Pakistan places on its longstanding and friendly relations with Portugal and extended an invitation to Portuguese companies and investors to explore Pakistan's growing economic and business opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Gilani also underscored the importance of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference as a platform to promote peace, security, and development in the region. He acknowledged the contributions of the approximately 50,000 Pakistanis residing in Portugal and expressed optimism for the swift conclusion of the Agreement on Labour Mobility Partnership, which would enhance cooperation in this crucial area.
Gilani appreciated Portugal's ongoing support for Pakistan's GSP Plus status and expressed hopes that high-level exchanges and regular bilateral consultations would further deepen the ties between the two nations. Ambassador Dominguez, in his remarks, conveyed Portugal's keen interest in bolstering relations with Pakistan, especially in trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
