The United States has warned of catastrophic consequences if Russia used nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
The warning came from US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan after a veiled nuclear threat by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said his country would use any weapons in its vast arsenals to defend its territory.
On the other hand Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov has said the four regions holding referendums would get full protection if annexed with Russia.
