Three more measles deaths at Naudero

Naudero: Another three deaths of measles hit babies were reported from villages of Burira, Pir Jan Muhammad & Mehar Junejo near here Thursday.

2years Suhana d/o Dilmurad Junejo of Mehar Junejo village died last night. 6years Sahid d/o Imtiaz Buriro died of measles last night at village Pir Jan Muhammad. 14months Waheeda d/o Adam Kurio died of this virus about 15 days ago at village Burira.

The number of measles deaths has risen to eight.

A team of vaccinators led by Nazir Soomro visited village Burira and gave preventive booster doze to 150 children. 10 other babies were also vaccinated in Gharibabad locality of Naundero today.

After the news of measles outbreak appeared in newspapers, villagers telephoned local journalists and informing about the outbreak of measles in their respective villages.

Wadero Hayat Shaikh of village Shikari Shaikh in the limits of UC Bahman informed that many of many children have been affected at his village and nobody has so far visited them to provide proper treatment. He gave names of six children who are suffering from measles who include Abbas s/o Pandhi, Rabail s/o Sachal, Shahzeb s/o Bachal Shaikh, Shahila d/o Bachal, Asma d/o Bachal and Bushra d/o Bachal.

Another villager named Qayoom Bhutto informed from Goth Kot Bhutto of UC Pir Bux Bhutto near Garhi Khuda Bux that some children in his village have also been affected from the disease. Cases were also reported from Phulpoto village.

A senior doctor requesting anonymity told Media that few years ago with the help of WHO, Larkana district was taken up as a pilot district for vaccination due to which for many years measles remained under control.

He said the sudden outbreak now shows lack of proper monitoring by the preventive side being looked after by District Health Officers in Sindh.
