SIUT’s transplant patients to attend regional sports event

Karachi: Earning a new lease of life after suffering from end stages of renal failure a group of ten transplant patients of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation SIUT are leaving for Abu Dhabi to take part in the Middle East Transplant Games beginning on Dec 13.

The four day games which are exclusively staged for transplanted patients will be participated by countries of Middle East region. Athletes taking part in the event ARE those who have either received or donated life saving organs.

SIUT’s sponsored contingent includes those patients who went through transplant procedures at the SIUT and now leading a normal and a healthy life.

A spokesman of SIUT today while commenting on participation in the specialized games said” staging sports and social events for transplant patients is in fact a demonstration of benefits of organ donation which also proves that both recipients and donors can lead a normal and healthy life”.

SIUT had also sent a contingent in the first Transplant Olympics Games held at Sydney 1997. The events in which the athletes will take part in Abu Dhabi games include 100, 200 and 400 meters race, 2 km walk, swimming table tennis and bowling.

Abu Dhabi Games are being held concurrently with the 13th Congress of Middle East Society of Organ Transplantation aimed to enhance transplantation activities in the region.
