Sisi tells Tillerson: Egypt’s stance is firm on a solution ensuring Palestinians’ rights

Cairo (UNA-OIC) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi told US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson during their meeting in Cairo on Monday that the United States should revive negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

In an official statement, Egyptian Presidency spokesman Bassam Rady said Sisi affirmed Egypt's clear and unwavering stance on reaching a fair and comprehensive solution that guarantees the right of Palestinian people and the establishment of an independent state with its capital in East Jerusalem in line with the June 1967 borders in accordance with international resolutions.

Sisi and Tillerson have reviewed Egypt's efforts in countering terrorism amid the major military operation the Egyptian army has launched recently to uproot terrorism from the country.

The US secretary of state stressed his country's commitment and support for Egypt's war against terrorism. He also emphasized Egypt's role as an important partner to the United State, saying his country is keen on strengthening and developing this relationship.

Earlier in the day, Tillerson told reporters after his meeting in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry that the US remains committed to achieving lasting peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
