SHC seeks comments on petition against street barriers

Karachi: The Sindh High Court SHC has sought comments from the secretary home department Sindh and Inspector General of Police IGP Sindh on a petition seeking removal of barriers erected illegally by the people, blocking streets and thoroughfare of metropolis.

The petitioner, Agha Syed Attaullah Shah, representing nongovernment organization, Raah-e-Raast Trust, cited province of Sindh through secretary home department and Inspector General of Police IGP as respondents.

Petitioner submitted that barriers have been placed across large number of streets and thoroughfares of the metropolis which have restricted freedom of citizens, law enforcers and the emergency workers.

He stated that Article 15 of the constitution of the Pakistan provides right of freedom and movement to every citizen but respondents unlawfully have violated the constitution and have illegally erected the barriers at the entry and exit points of the many roads and streets.

He stated that Sindhi Muslim Society, Shah Faisal Colony, F B Area, Sharifabad, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jamshed Town, GulshaneIqbal Town, North Nazimabad Town, Korangi Landhi Town and in other towns free movement of the citizens has been restricted by denying them access to streets and roads.

He submitted that this situation being illegal has caused a kind of anarchy in the metropolis.

He pleaded to the court to direct the respondents to remove barriers from the streets and roads.

The division bench comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui directed the respondents to furnish their respective replies till January 24.
