SHC issues notices on petition of freewill marriage couple

Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Saturday issued notice to provincial law officer, prosecutor general Sindh and other respondents in a petition filed by a freewill marriage couple seeking protection.

Petitioners, Aneela and her husband Ghulam Husain, solemnized marriage on freewill on 21 November 2012.

Petitioners impleaded Sindh home secretary, Inspector General of Police, Station House Officer (SHO) of Moro police station and others including family members of the woman as respondents.

Ghulam Husain stated that the family of his wife did not accept their marriage and the couple were declared liable to be killed in the name of honour.

He stated that the family of his wife has got registered a false FIR of kidnapping at Moro police station, and his father has been booked in the case.

Headed by the Justice Maqbool Baqar, the division bench directed police officials and other respondents not to arrest the nominated persons in FIR till next date of hearing.

The court also directed police officials to provide effective security to the petitioners and their family.
