Karachi: Sindh High Court SHC on the Monday directed Secretary of Ministry of Industries and Production, Chairman Pakistan Steel Mill, and Pakistan Steel Hadeed Welfare Trust to furnish their respective replies on petition seeking regularization of jobs of contractual workers.
Headed by Justice Faisal Arab, the division bench asked them to file comments by 17 December 2012.
Appearing on behalf of petitioners, Advocate Shoaun Nabi impleaded the Federation of Pakistan through Secretary of Ministry of Industries and Production, Chairman Pakistan Steel Mill, and Pakistan Steel Hadeed Welfare Trust as respondents.
He submitted that contractual workers were discharging their duties in educational institution of Pakistan Steel Mill under Pakistan Steel Hadeed Welfare Trust.
He submitted that according to service rules any employee working on a contractual basis is entitled to his job regularization after 90 days. However, he said, the Pakistan steel Mill have regularized about 4600 contractual workers but 325 female and 144 male staffers belonging to education department had been deprived of this right.
He stated that contractual workers had been working for the past five to 15 years, and they have written letter several times to respondents for regularization of their services but they paid no heed.
He appealed to court to issue directives for regularization of services of the petitioners.
