Karachi: The Sind High Court on Thursday directed the Election Commission of Pakistan ECP to decide the matter pertaining to delimitation of Naushehro Feroze’s provincial and national assembly constituencies in light of proposals submitted by ECP’s committee on delimitation.
Earlier, the court had issued order for delimitation of all national as well as provincial constituencies of Noshehro Feroz in identical petitions filed by Syed Zulifqar Ali Shah and Syed Mureed Ali Shah seeking delimitation of Naushehro Feroze’s constituencies based on the population. It had also disposed off the petition.
Applicant Syed Mureed Ali Shah filed contempt of court application against the Chief Election Commissioner and provincial election commissioner seeking contempt of court proceedings against them for flouting court orders.
Applicant submitted that on 3 March, in reply ECP has submitted that it will form a committee for delimitation of Naushehro Feroze’s five provincial assembly constituencies and two national assembly constituencies and committee will submit the proposals before commission within seven days. He said that court had disposed off the petition by directing ECP that exercise of delimitation be completed within given time frame and commission shall notify delimitation in official gazette before announcing schedule for general elections.
The applicant contended that the committee on delimitation constituencies submitted its proposals before commission but a notification has not been issued deliberately. However, he said that the notification regarding the delimitation of constituencies that fall in Karachi have been issued but not in their case.
The court disposing off the applications directed ECP to decide matter of delimitation of constituencies of Naushehro Feroze’s and the place its decision before court on April 2.
