SHC bench dismisses polls petitions against Khursheed Shah, Siraj Durrani
Karachi: A larger bench of Sindh High Court SHC on Wednesday dismissed polls petitions challenging the acceptance of nomination papers of Pakistan Peoples’ Party PPP leaders, Khursheed Shah and Agha Siraj Durrani.
The petitioner, Haroon Buriro, who challenged the acceptance of Khursheed Shah’s nomination papers, submitting that the former federal minister and PPP leader had concealed details about his property, including agricultural land and profession in the nomination forms.
Another petitioner, Najaf Ali Kumaryo, challenged the acceptance of nomination papers filed by PPP’s Agha Siraj Durrani for PS9 in Shikarpur. He contended the former local government minister had filed a statement before the returning officer that he was not involved in any case during the past six months. However, he stated that Durrani had been booked for beating the local government secretary, Shaukat Jokhio, at the Aram Bagh police station in Karachi. He said that he did not fall within category of article 62 and 63 of constitution as he made a false statement before the returning officer.
The bench adjourned the petition of Bibi Yasmeen Shah, who is a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional PMLF to April 26. She challenged the acceptance of Dr Fehmida Mirza’s nomination papers to contest for NA225, submitting that PPP leader has defaulted on bank loans and is therefore ineligible to contest the elections.
The larger bench of SHC issued notice to ECP and others in a petition of Abdul Wahid who challenged the acceptance of nomination papers of PPP’s Sadiq Ali Memon.
Same bench put off the hearing of some other elections petitions to tomorrow Thursday.
