Police accused of capturing vehicles in pretext of poll duties

KARACHI: Karachi Transport Ettehad KTE President Syed Irshad Hussain Shah Bukhari and General Secretary Syed Mehmood Afreedi in a joint statement on Thursday complained that police were capturing their vehicles in the pretext of election duties and releasing the same at Rs500 bribe per vehicle.

The transport leaders said that they had provided vehicles for election duties at suitable compensation. “How could we provide vehicles to police if they continue to capture them,” they questioned. They threatened to stop public transport service by parking vehicles if police do not stop capturing vehicles.

“We will also not run vehicles on 11 May if this practice is not stopped with immediate effect. Any responsibility in this regard will lie on relevant administration,” They warned.
