Karachi: A petition opposing dual nationality of Dr Asim Hussain holding position of Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources has been filed in the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry.
Petitioner Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi submitted that Dr Asim Hussain, Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources bore Canadian nationality.
He has submitted that apex court in its verdict on 20102012 had directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to examine the cases of the parliamentarians and the members of provincial assemblies, individually by obtaining fresh declaration on oath from all of them that they are not disqualified under Article 631© of the constitution.
He submitted that Dr Hussain had resigned from his Senate seat and from ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources in order to save his Canadian nationality. He added, however, he had been reappointed as advisor to the prime minister on petroleum and natural resources.
He prayed to court to pass orders for the disqualification of Dr Asim Hussain, as he has hidden his Canadian nationality from the Supreme Court and be sacked from his position.
