OIC FMs voice concern over Myanmar’s ‘ethnic cleansing’ of Rohingya Muslims

Dhaka Foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed their deep concern over the violations perpetrated by Myanmar's security forces against the Rohingya Muslim community, affecting over 370,000 Rohingyas who were forcibly displaced to Bangladesh and other countries across the region. They also noted that these violations amount to the level of "ethnic cleansing".

In their communique issued at the end of their 45th session in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka, the ministers reaffirmed their full solidarity with Bangladesh in the face of the massive influx of Rohingya refugees and its humanitarian and security consequences for the country. They called on the OIC member states to provide further assistance to help Bangladesh cope with the flow of refugees into its territories.

The ministers stressed the importance of OIC member states continuing to remain engaged in the United Nations system and other relevant international organizations to address the massive human rights violations of the Rohingya Muslims taking into account the recent developments.

Also in the communique, the foreign minister urged strong international support to resolve the crisis and full implementation of the recommendations put forward by the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State (ACRS), chaired by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan (also known as Annan Commission).
