NA PIA to procure new aircraft, NA informed

Islamabad: The National Assembly was informed on Thursday that Pakistan International Airlines will procure new aircraft to provide better and safe travelling facilities to the passengers.

Minister for Defence Syed Naveed Qamar told the House that during question hour that no new 737 aircraft have been inducted in the fleet of PIA.

They have rather been replaced by A320. He clarified that 747 Boeing aircraft have not been banned in any party of the world including Europe and the United States.

The Minister said that the Civil Aviation Authority is being strengthened to ensure safe, efficient and properly coordinated civil air transport services.

Responding to a question, Minister for Defence Syed Naveed Qamar categorically stated that Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project is actively being pursued in order to meet the growing domestic requirements.

He said the project has not been abandoned and it is very much on the cards.

Parliamentary Secretary for Petroleum and Natural Resources Rukhsana Jamshed Buttar informed the House that priority is being given to provide uninterrupted gas supply to the domestic consumers. In this regard three holidays are being observed in the CNG and industrial sectors per week to cope with the domestic requirements.

Parliamentary Secretary for Science and Technology Dr. Lal Chand said the present government has established scientific and industrial research institutions and gave science and technology policy for promotion of Science and Technology in the country. He said solar energy projects have also been started keeping in view the growing energy demand.

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Farooq H. Naek told the House in a written reply that the Election Commission has taken a series of steps to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the country.

These include preparation of Electoral Rolls, establishment of permanent polling stations and appointment of Election Tribunals. He said the process of re-description of constituencies is currently underway.

Election Commission is making efforts to enrolment of names of left out eligible voters in the electoral rolls.

Farooq H. Naek said a total number of 196 projects under access to justice programme have been completed during the last four years. Work on 97 schemes under this programme is underway.

Minister of State for Human Resources Development Chaudhary Ghias Ahmad Mela informed the House the present government has enhanced monthly pension under Employees Oldage Benefit to 3600 from 1500 rupees.
