Minister says smoke pollution huge challenge
Karachi: Smoke pollution is a huge challenge not only for Pakistan but also other countries of the world and there is dire need to take collective efforts against this menace, said Sindh Minister for Environment and Alternative Energy Shakh Muhammad Afzal here Wednesday.
Talking to a delegation at his office, he said there are about 4000 chemicals in Tobacco smoke and 50 of them cause cancer in human beings. He said smoking in closed places is equally harmful for non-smokers present there.
He said as per an estimate about 700million children in world breath in air contaminated with tobacco smoke, which increases different diseases, especially lung ailments.
The minister said smoke emitting from vehicles and chimneys of factories is also spreading air pollution, causing diseases, particularly affecting children.
