Mian Iftikhar declares ICU Peshawar as national heritage

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Culture, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has declared Islamia College University (ICU) Peshawar as national heritage in order to protect its glory and historical status. He also directed not to touch the historical architecture of the university rather its all building should be converted as per its historical perspective.

This he said while addressing a function in the historical Khyber Union Hall of the university on Friday. The function was also addressed by the Vice Chancellor of ICU Madam Dr. Noor Jehan, Chairman Pashto Department, Abasin Yousafzai and Director Archaeology Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr. Shah Nazar.

The Minister on this occasion also inaugurated Mian Rashid Hussain Shaheed Block and Teachers students centre in Islamic Collegiate Peshawar constructed at a cost of Rs. 5 million. He also attended the Christmas program and cut the Christmas cake.

Mian Sahib maintained that ICU was the old and historical institution of the province and its outgoing students were playing their active role in different fields nationally as well as globally. He said that it was the specialty of the ICU that its students were always most confident adding that it was the reason that its students have the capability of go ahead.

Referring to the abducted Vice Chancellor of ICU Ajmal Khan, the Minister said that he was the benefactor of this land and he had tremendous services in teaching. He added that strenuous efforts were underway for safe release of Ajmal Khan and he announces on this forum that the government was ready to fulfil the genuine demand of the abductors.

The Information Minister asserted that we love peace and hate violence and it was our utmost desire to have a book and pen instead of gun in the hands of our new generation. That was why; his government has introduced a lot of reforms in the education sector and established record number of universities, colleges and schools in every nook and corner of the province.
