Karachi: Karachi Water & Sewerage Board KW$SB here Wednesday disconnected water supply of Industrial and Trading Estate SITE Ltd due to bill default. D.M.D Revenue Waqar Hashmi told a meeting chaired by Managing Director Misbahuddin Farid that SITE Ltd is a defaulter of Rs500 million and a notification in this regard was issued last week. However, display of irresponsive behaviour and lack of cooperation from SITE Ltd. has left no choice but to disconnect the water supply.
SITE Ltd. upon disconnection contacted KW&SB with a payment of Rs100million, promising to clear the dues soon. A cheque of Rs100million rupee check was bounced the day after and SITE administration has still not responded in this regard.
M.D KW&SB expressing his distress on this behaviour directed to discontinue the water supply to SITE Ltd until full payment. KW&SB supplies 5 million gallons of water to SITE Ltd. on daily basis and SITE Ltd. receives the water bill from their consumers.
M.D said that KW&SB is a public service institution supplying water to the city. This water is brought to Karachi from reservoirs situation 200 kilometres away from the city via three pumping phases.
KW&SB pays heavy dues for pumping, filtration, chlorination, electricity and diesel. On one hand, the price hike in all products and services is making it difficult for KW&SB to maintain a steady supply on the other lack of cooperation from bulk consumers only adds to the problem.
Misbahuddin Farid said that KW&SB is left with no other choice but to discontinue the supply to the defaulters, until full payment. He directed the Revenue and Engineering Department to continue the Recovery Campaign without taking any pressure. These actions are taken for the betterment of the institution so that KW&SB can ensure a swift and steady supply to the city of Karachi.
