Islamabad: “Our exporters should focus on improve the packing of kinnow for better outcome while exporting to different destinations in the current season” said CEO Harvest Tradings and Member Export ICCI Ahmad Jawad.
In a press statement issued here on Monday he said that being one of the largest producer, nature have given us unique flavour and good colour in this product but due to lack of our efforts unfortunately kinnow didn’t achieve that level. It’s mainly due to lack of knowledge especially in private sector, he added.
Similarly the Ministry of National Food Security may develop such mechanism to check the quality at sea ports, but with expedites way due to its perish ability. Current year’s production is 20 percent less at 1.8 million tonnes compared to previous year’s yield of 2 million tonnes, he added.
He urged Pakistan Horticulture and Development & Export Company (PHDEC) to focus on ASEAN and hold kinnow exhibitions, so that we can get a path to enter into ASEAN region properly.
Furthermore Mr. Jawad requested foreign office and Ministry of commerce to take up the matter with Iran as well regarding our kinnow export and give directive to banks to allow E forms, every year Iran consumes around 50,000 tonnes of kinnow. We should avoid decisions in haste which could affect our country export; as our kinnow is the only product in Pakistani Fruits who earn between $90 to 100 million per year who gives a good contribution to our national kitty, he remarked.
