JUI-F demands immediate correction of voter lists

General Karachi

Karachi: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Sindh chapter general secretary Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro and other leaders here Monday said the massive irregularities in voter lists in not a mistake but major poll rigging tactics, adding the faulty lists should be immediately corrected.

Soomro said major political parties of Sindh have been recording protest for last six months with the provincial election commission, but to no avail. He said the stance of NADRA officials that these are minor mistakes is tantamount to cover their crime. He said not only the voter lists be corrected but action also be taken against the provincial election commission and NADRA officials who tried to deprive hundreds of thousands of people of their right of vote. He demanded transfer of the provincial election commissioner Sindh.

He said the recent by-polls at PS-21 Naushehro Feroze are a blemish on the face of Election Commission of Pakistan. He said all the bids to ensure success of the government-supported candidates went exposed thanks to the independent media. He said opposition parties had already complained about massive pre-polls rigging in this constituency but the election commission failed to stop them.

He asked the election commission to declare the results of PS-21 null and void and order fresh polling. He said if the Election Commission of Pakistan is unable to hold free and fair polls in a single constituency how one could expect that it would conduct transparent election in the whole country.
