Peshawar: There were ten terrorists who had attacked Peshawar airbase of whom five were killed last night and the rest were killed on Sunday morning, Maj. Gen. Asim Salim Bajwa, Director General, ISPR, said.
The security forces have cleared the Pawakai area near the Bacha Khan airport in Peshawar killing another 5 terrorists today. The forces had launched a search operation in the area following last night’s attack on the airport.
The five terrorists who were present in the area attacked the law enforcement agencies this morning. The security forces returned the fire killing three terrorists. One policeman was also martyred. However‚ two terrorists took shelter in an under construction house. The security forces besieged the house but the terrorists blew them up with explosives. The terrorists were foreigners.
Meanwhile‚ Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said the Peshawar airport is fully safe and did not receive any damage during the attack.
Capital Police Chief Imtiaz Altaf told media that two suspected persons were also arrested and three suicide jackets were defused.
Peshawar Air base has resumed normal operations following last night terrorist attack. A spokesman of Pakistan Air Force said in Peshawar this morning that the situation is fully under control. He said the terrorists used rockets and suicide bombers to penetrate the base parameters at three different places and caused minor damage to outer perimeter boundary wall.
The spokesman said that terrorists used two vehicles laden with explosives‚ hand grenades and automatic weapons. One vehicle was destroyed and the second was badly damaged.
He said there was no damage to PAF equipment and personnel.
