While talking to the delegation, the Prime Minister assured the delegation that all humanly possible arrangements were being made to ensure timely, peaceful, fair, transparent and credible elections in the country.

The Prime Minister while briefing the delegation on the political history of Pakistan said that Pakistan was unfortunate as father of the nation passed away within one year after gaining independence. Prime Minister Late Liaquat Ali Khan’s assassination was another great setback for the newly independence state, he added.

Unfortunately there were developments in the country which were detrimental to the democratic system of Pakistan, added the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said that the caretaker government is making history by not only conducting credible elections but ensuring transfer of power to civil democratically elected government.

He said that the Election Commission of the Pakistan is being headed by a well known retired judge of the superior courts of Pakistan and was appointed with consensus. The caretaker government had extended all possible assistance to Election Commission under whose supervision elections are being conducted.

“We have not interfered in the work of Election Commission” said the Prime Minister.

Allaying fears of security on the polling day, the Prime Minister said that Army, Rangers, Law Enforcing agencies and Razakars have been deployed throughout the country to maintain peace.

Mr. Galher recalling his meeting with the Prime Minister a month back informed him that the European Union has over one hundred persons working as observers all over Pakistan. The delegation has met representatives of political parties and non government organizations as well, he said.

The Prime Minister while responding to a question regarding transfer of power to the new government said, “We will not delay the transfer of power for a movement” it will be handed over to the newly elected government without any delay.

The Prime Minister said that the government of Pakistan welcomes international observers and would appreciate any suggestion for further improvement.

The delegation, Mr. Galher said, would compile a comprehensive report after completion of elections and submit it to government of Pakistan.
