EC ECP direct for lodging of FIR against miscreants indulged in firing during by-polls

ISLAMABAD: Taking serious notice of the incessant firing with lethal weapons during the recent by-polls, the Election Commission of Pakistan ECP on Wednesday directed the Election Commissioner of Punjab to contact the Chief Secretary and DCOs of the respective cities to lodge First Information Reports FIR against the miscreants indulged in firing which caused harassment, fear and injury to one person.

The ECP also directed that the miscreants of the other constituencies be arrested for violating section 144 Cr. P.C. as well as causing harassment and fear to the public and FIRs be registered against them. The ECP took serious notice of the incessant firing with lethal weapons at the houses/deras of the winning candidates in the recent bye-elections in various constituencies.

According to ECP, an FIR has also been registered against the persons involved in firing at Sialkot and three accused persons have been arrested and weapons have been recovered from them. The ECP also sent a letter to various TV channels for sending footage of the firing, caught on their cameras, to the ECP.

Besides, a meeting of the ECP is also scheduled to be held at Karachi on Friday to discuss recent bye-elections in Punjab and Sindh, issue of dual nationalities, electoral rolls as well as delimitation of Karachi in light of the Supreme Court judgment and some other important administrative matters.
