Demo held against sale of twin islands


KARACHI: Pakistan Fisher Folk Forum PFF on Friday staged a rally and held sitin outside Karachi Press Club against the sale of twin islands of Karachi Bhandar and Dingi.

Hundreds of fishermen, carrying placards and banners enscribed with slogans, took out rallay from Ibrahim Hyderi and reched Karachi Press club.

Chairman PFF Muhammad Ali Shah, Saeed Baloch, Tahira Ali, Majeed Mohtani and Yusuf Khandani led the rally. A large number of women also participated in the rally. They rally also passed near Sindh Assembly amid antigovernemtn slogans. They demanded to stop selling two islands Dangi and Bhandar and develop a modern city on it.

The protestors staged a sitin demonstration in front of Karachi Press Club.

Addressing the rally, Shah said millions of fishermen living on coastal belt of Sindh use sea and islands as a source of employment, so their sale is a conspiracy against fishermen.

He said recently democratic government had created many problems for Sindh and in its last governing days, it cheated Sindh people by selling these islands.

Shah said selling island is matter of Sindh but it damages the sea coastal belt, environment and mangrov forests, and millions of fishermen would be unemployed. He said every possible opposition and resistance would be offered against it.

Majeed Mohtani, Zulfiqar Shah, Yusuf Khandani, Tahira Ali and others also addressed sitin demonstration.
