General Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A plea seeking disqualification of PML-Q leaders Ch Shujaat Hussain, Mushahid Hussain Syed and others for arranging an immoral and unIslamic cultural dance, on the name of party’s event, where a woman dancer grabbed media’s attention, raising eyebrows of many quarters and giving many a topic to discuss, was filed in the Supreme Court on Friday.

The plea filed by one Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi stated that Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) Cultural Wing organized a cultural event on Thursday in Central Secretariat of the party, with special arrangements for the audience, including dance performance of a woman along with regional dances.

It said a black dressed lady presented the immoral dance, which was seen and enjoyed by all top leaders of PMLQ including Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Mushahid Hussain Syed. Besides, a large number of women leaders were also present in the ceremony.

The petitioner prayed the court to disqualify the two PMLQ top leaders from contesting upcoming general elections. Citing Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution, the petitioner stated that the two party leaders arranged and publically attended the dance show, which did not comply with the teachings of Islam, the Constitution and culture of Pakistan, thus they had become ineligible for representation of the people. The petitioner also called for lifetime ban on Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Mushahid Hussain Syed from contesting general elections.

A sizzling performance by a female dancer at PMLQ ‘s cultural show has also prompted the Election Commission of Pakistan to seek a copy of the video of the program held here on Thursday.

Party chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and secretary general Mushahid Hussain Syed also attended the event. Though the PMLQ President appreciated the performance by a female dancer, some people raised objections over it.
