Court: SC issues notices to 20 MPs resigned over dual nationality

ISLAMABAD: A three member Supreme Court bench on Thursday issued notices to 20 former members of the parliament MPs who had resigned from the assemblies in view of their dual nationality.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed was hearing dual nationality holders’ case. During the hearing, the chief justice observed that ‘why not all these members be declared ineligible for upcoming elections’.

The chief justice noted that the court had earlier ordered these MPs to return the benefits and salaries they had withdrawn in Shehnaz Sheikh dual nationality case. The court directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to submit a report having details of their nomination papers till April 1.

Those who were denotified included Nadeem Ahsan, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Fozia Ejaz, Sabin Rizvi, Dr. Aresh Kumar, Arif Aziz Shaikh, Jamil Malik, Fozia Afzal, Tahir Ali Javed, Jamil Ashraf, Javed Iqbal, Murad Ali Shah, Sadiq Ali Memon, Abdul Hameed Siddiqui, Muhammad Ali Shah Late, Askari Taqvi and Muhammad Raza Haroon.
