Court: SC disposes of 543 cases in a week

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court disposed of 543 cases, against institution of 480 new cases during the period from Saturday March 16to Friday March 22, 2013. The backlog remains 18914.

The backlog in the apex court on March 15 was 18977 cases. As 480 new cases were instituted during March 16 March 22, 2013, the progressive total of pending cases on March 22 came to 19457 cases.

Out of these, 543 cases were disposed of during Monday to Friday. The backlog on March 22 remained 18914 cases.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and Branch Registries to expedite the cases’ hearings and clear the backlog.

The chief justice as well as judges continued to hear the cases in various benches with the aim to minimize the backlog and provide relief to the litigants.
