Court: SC disposes of 363 cases in a week

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court disposed of 363 cases, against institution of 290 new cases during Saturday March 23, 2013 to Friday March 29, 2013. The backlog remains 18841.

The backlog in the apex court on March 22 was 18914 cases. As 290 new cases were instituted during March 23, 2013 to March 29, 2013, the progressive total of pending cases on March 29, 2013 came to 19204 cases. Out of these, 363 cases were disposed of during the period from Monday to Friday. The backlog on March 29, 2013 remains 18841 cases.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and at Branch Registry Lahore to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog.

The chief justice and judges continued to hear the cases with the aim to minimize the backlog and provide relief to the litigants.
